Swordfish, Broadbill Fish Mounts

Swordfish Mounts & Swordfish Replicas by King Sailfish Mounts

Swordfish Mounts.  Broadbill Swordfish are found worldwide in temperate tropical oceanic and continental shelf waters from the surface to depths of 2,000-feet or more.  Swordfish have smooth broad and flattened bills that are significantly longer and wider than the bill of any other billfish.  It also has a rigid dorsal and pectoral fins and a very large keel on either side of the body just before the tail.  Swordfish often slash their prey using their bill with spring-loaded lightning speed.  One broadbill attacked Alvin, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute submarine, at a depth of 330 fathoms, and wedged its sword so tightly that it could not be removed.  This pelagic, migratory fish travels alone when mature, but travels in small groups as juveniles.  Information courtesy of The International Game Fish Association.  For additional information on conservation of Broadbill Swordfish and other Billfish species, visit the website of The Billfish Foundation  (TBF).

Swordfish replicas are available online from King Sailfish Mounts.  King Sailfish individually crafts finely detailed mounted fish replica by hand, one-at-a-time.  Every reproduction is airbrushed to resemble that species' most vivid and striking color patterns.  Initially formed to promote the release of local Atlantic sailfish, King Sailfish continues to be the leader in marine conservation--now offering all sizes and species of game fish release mounts, including the Broadbill Swordfish Mount.

The World Record Broadbill Swordfish weighed in at 1,182 pounds and was landed by Louis Marron off the coast of Chile.  The original mount was produced by Pflueger Taxidermy in 1953 and had been on display at the Miami Rod & Reel Club for many years.  Due to deterioration, the original mount was recently restored by creating a new mold and re-attaching the original parts.  Using this new mold, we can re-create and offer exact replicas of the original mount.  You can choose to have the mount finished to appear authentic (including the broken-off bill) or new.  The overall length with the short bill is 185-inches.  Actual weight of the replica is around 50-pounds.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this mount will be donated by King Sailfish Mounts to the I.G.F.A. Trust Fund.
